NEVER BE A FAN OF SOMETHING OTHER THAN YOURSELF
Dhoni's daughter gets rape threats
Vijay sethupati's daughter gets rape threats after the controversy around the film 800
What is common between the above lines?
You might think it is the rape threats
NO
It's the fanatic mindset of Indians.
What do I mean by this?
In India, we have a vivid fan culture which probably doesn't exist in any other country
What is my problem with this?
Ain't I a fan of none?
Here comes the tricky part.
I admire someone but I am not a fan of someone............. What difference does this make?
For example, I admire a lot of people from different fields.
In this article, I will tell you the basic difference between admiring someone and being a fan.
Let me tell you a small example, let us consider the example of Dhoni in this IPL.I love Dhoni for his mindset and his humble nature and the way he finishes a match.
The things have gone the other way round this IPL. He is completely out of form.
When you are a fan you never accept the reality that Dhoni's game as a cricketer is over and he needs to retire.
You start justifying his form and try to fill your insecurity by trolling other cricketers or you could turn into a fanatic and pose rape threats to his daughter.
This is the main problem of being a fan.
You have to call a spade a spade.
This fan culture is very dangerously creeping in society.
It might be the cinema, politics, cricket.
The worst part is when you are a fan of politicians....it is even more dangerous.
You hesitate to speak on his wrongdoings and justify them.
At the end of the day, you end up being a bhakt of the politician.
Another alarming scenario which I noticed is people making their idols as their identity. Some name their Twitter handles after their hero.
Don't they have any identity...Why should they make someone their identity?
Here are seven points I read from an article why you should never be a fan.
Being a fan pushes you in observer mode
Being a fan makes you believe in shortcuts to success
Being a fan keeps you from focusing on the important things
Being a fan makes you aim for standards that may (or may not) be yours
Being a fan makes you think that there might be something wrong with you
Being a fan makes you give celebrities too much importance
Being a fan makes you believe that famous people have it all figured out
Here is my final take
"Psychology says Never be a fan of anyone or anything. It pushes your mind into a predetermined state and you never accept logic. Instead admire people for their greatness and openly criticize their wrongdoings. This increases your trust in them. But never be a fanatic."
"The only person you should be a fan of is your self"
