THE DARK TRUTH THIS PANDEMIC HAS EXPOSED
Let me demystify a little bit.Corona doesn't believe in Nepotism.Every Human being is equally prone to the attack of the virus. But the kind of treatment when a VIP gets affected is no way in Comparision with that to a common man.For example when Amitabh Bachchan tested positive the concern that the BMC authorities showed will not be seen when a person in a slum like Dharavi get infected. In this article I would bring to your optics the inequalities which were prevalent in the Indian society are exposed by corona.
HEALTH CARE FOR ALL ......WHEN?
Politicians in India often give election speeches and promise for a complete revamp of health infrastructure. They also promise that poor would be treated free and that basic health care system will reach every nook and corner of the country.Though many schemes were brought into place yet basic health care for all is still a dream.
During this pandemic it is widely noticed that being rich will help you get tested quickly and you would have a better treatment by joining in private hospital .Cost of bed per day in private hospital range from 23,000 to 76,000.This is highly unaffordable for an average India hence he has to join the government hospital for treatment. You wouldn't disagree that the situation of governmnent hospitals is much worser than any one would expect. However states like Andhra pradesh,Tamilnadu have good government hospital.
ONLINE CLASSES ARE NOT THE SAME FOR ALL
Education in the world has undergone a rapid change during this pandemic.Online classes are now the new normal. Online classes require internet and a gadget. But the harsh reality is that neither all the students are accessible to internet nor they have a gadget through which they could attend the classes.
but with the entry of Jio internet penetration in India has seen a rapid surge. However much of India's population doesn't come under internet coverage and many Indians are novice to the field of technology.
STAY HOME STAY SAFE ONLY FOR THOSE WITH HOME
Initially the notion was to stay home and protect ourselves from the virus.Given that two of every five Indian household live in houses where they average three to a room and the stress of physical proximity is more in rural areas. For many staying out is lot safer than staying inside the house. This arises out pf the fact that many Indian have no affordable house.
Politicians promise affordable houses for the poor but due to lack of implementation poor finally end up in making slums and living in crowded placed and thus are more prone to infectious diseases. This is much more in metropolitan cities.
WAY FORWARD
Epidemics are a good mirrors of society.India's future cannot be sustainable if poor and the under privileged have no contribution.WHO data shows that Indian government has spent $63 per person on health care where as Chinese government spent $391 For each on health care.Hence the pandemic teaches us that we need to focus on the under privileged class of this country by improving their life standards. This fulfills the real essence of our independence. Therefore the dark truth that the pandemic has exposed is the unseen and overlooked in equality of this country.
